Guide to Anki Intervals and Learning Steps

Description:

Learn how Anki calculates intervals and how you can modify settings to optimize your learning!

NOTE: There is a mistake towards the end of the video when I was talking about ideal retention rates of 80-90% and said what I would do if I had a retention rate of 96%, I should have INCREASED the interval modifier (to see cards less frequently) not decreased it.

28:14 Summary

For medical students:
If you're aiming for very long term retention I would continue to recommend a 1d 6d 15d learning interval.
For a somewhat shorter term goal such as Step 1, you may want to aim for higher than 80-90% retention. I personally would recommend experimenting between shorter intervals (1d 3d 7d, 1d 4d 10d, 1d 3d 6d 15d) approach to allow yourself to see the cards a few extra times before your exam.
